About this spot
The 'Cradle of Democracy in the East,' where the Malolos Congress convened and the First Philippine Republic was inaugurated in 1899. The church on the old ten-peso bill is a National Shrine with a small museum on the revolution in its convent. Walk the nearby Kamestisuhan district of ancestral houses and the Casa Real Shrine, then try Bulacan sweets like pastillas and ensaymada. An easy half-day history trip north of Manila.
