Palaui Island and Cape Engaño Lighthouse

About

Palaui is the wild northeastern tip of Luzon: a protected island with empty beaches, clear coves and a Spanish-era lighthouse on a grassy cliff. Boats leave Port San Vicente in Santa Ana. Most trips land at Engaño Cove, where a steep 15 to 20 minute hike leads to the 1892 Cape Engaño Lighthouse and a 360-degree view of the Dos Hermanas islets and the Pacific. Add Crocodile Island or the white-sand Anguib Beach on the mainland. Book only registered passenger boats, bring cash, food and lots of water, and wear sturdy sandals. The crossing can be very rough in amihan season, so go in the calmer summer months. CNN once ranked Palaui among the world's best beaches, and two Survivor seasons were filmed here.
