Miagao Church (Santo Tomas de Villanueva)
About
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Baroque Churches of the Philippines, completed in 1797. Its fortress-like yellow sandstone facade is famous for a carved relief showing St. Christopher carrying the Child Jesus among coconut, papaya and guava trees, a uniquely Filipino take on Baroque. Massive bell towers once doubled as watchtowers against raids. Worth the trip from Iloilo City on its own.
