About this spot
The cross planted by Ferdinand Magellan's expedition in 1521, marking the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines. The original is said to be encased inside the tindalo wood cross you see today, under an octagonal kiosk whose painted ceiling depicts the first baptism. Small but deeply symbolic, it's almost always paired with the Basilica del Santo Niño beside it and Fort San Pedro a short walk away.
